I got a cat!
well.... kind of... We have a stray cat that we believe was abandoned. We are not yet taking responsibility for the cat per say. But we are trying to find it a new home. During the process we have decided to give it shelter, when needed, and feed it regularly. The cat has his claws but was forging in a trash can for food, so we came to believe that left in the wild the cat would surely die a young age.

Why don't I keep it? Mainly because I can not afford it. The cat is still young around the 1-2 year range, has no tags/collar. I have already tried contacting the local shelters (especially the no-kill ones) and they are all full. So for now I guess we have a yard cat. During rain and freezing weather we are letting him stay in the garage. If any one if the Charlotte area wants a cat please let me know.

The cat, who we have named Gulliver, is very loving and affectionate.

Hi kiddo,

I'll try to keep this short, but, hey, I'm a word guy. First, it's per se, not per say (I said I was a word guy).

Anyhoo, a couple of years ago a little black cat showed up on our porch. Actually, I keep a cup of H2O out there to throw at the little beasts, keep them away from our bird feeder. But, I noticed the level was dropping and then, well, we were cat people. It was winter for God sakes and, like you, I made baby steps, putting out water, then a bit of food, then it was a trip to the vet ($500!). She was preggers as the Brits say, and had six kits in her. We had them aborted and her fixed - bad karma I know, but ... Ambre is now part of the family.

They really are low-maintenance critters - feed them, change their litter weekly, and trim their claws every other month and they are soooo entertaining. Maybe we got lucky, but she's not destructive, except for one, teeny corner of the couch (scratching post is on the list of things to buy), but, as I said, she's pretty cool. I think pets reflect their owners' personalities - or in the case of cats, their staff's personalities. Just kidding. As I said, they really are low maint.

I vote for adoption, but it'll cost for vet trips and remember, they live about 20 years, so it's a bit more of a commitment than, say, a dog.

Ah yes typos, gotta love them.

Well after some research we determined the he is a bengal, and I just love peculiar animals, so we have decided to keep him for now. And even though having animals is against our lease, I never was one for the rules ^^
